The best part about having visitors is showing off your home. Alaska doesn’t yet feel like home, but doing fun things here helps. My mom, sister, and my mom’s boyfriend came to visit for a week last week, and we definitely experienced Alaska! We went to the hot springs, snowmobiling, visited a few museums, Christmas in Ice in North Pole, and dog sledding! (and of course lots of free babysitting 🙂 )
I didn’t get a chance to research the different companies and sign-up for any tours before we left over Christmas, so Mike called a number on the side of the road with a sign that simply read “dog sledding”. They had availability the next day and were very affordable, so we booked four adults for the tour.
It was amazing. The ride was simple and short, but beautiful and interesting to watch the dogs do their thing. We lucked out with the weather, it was unusually warm (in the upper 20’s!), and the sun was out.
I kept taking picture after picture but would also put my camera down to be in the moment (and warm up my hands:). Around twenty minutes into the ride, we stopped to rest a minute, and turn around.
When I did a simple google search, I found the dog sled company is named Aurora Husky Tours, and you can call 907-987-6587 to book a ride. The owner is nice, and offers a fun and reasonably priced experience.
